Volunteering for Walisha Foundation
Volunteering with Walisha Foundation is an opportunity to be part of a movement that empowers smallholder farmers in Rwanda. Whether you are on the ground assisting with training programs or supporting virtually through administrative and marketing efforts, your contributions help improve the livelihoods of farmers and strengthen food security. At Walisha, we recognize that each volunteer brings unique skills and expertise, and we are committed to providing the necessary resources and guidance to ensure a meaningful experience.
Why Volunteer with Walisha?
Walisha Foundation operates with one purpose – supporting Rwanda’s smallholder farmers through training and resources. This purpose is implemented through various planned programs, however, and they all rely on devoted volunteers. Your abilities and time, whether volunteered on-site or virtually, can directly impact the success of the programs.
Ways to Volunteer
On-the-Ground Opportunities:
● Assisting with training programs for smallholder farmers
● Data collection and record-keeping
● Acting as a liaison between Walisha and local partners, including extension officers
Virtual Opportunities:
● Administrative support: data management, documentation, grant writing, and fundraising
● Marketing support: social media management, article writing, and email marketing
Support for Volunteers
To ensure that our volunteers can carry out their tasks effectively, Walisha provides volunteers with the resources they require, ranging from data and documentation to access and support that is tailor-made to your position. Our aim is to maximize your impact by giving you the right support and resources.
Recognizing Our Volunteers
Walisha is devoted to recognizing and thanking its volunteers. We do this, among other means, by showcasing their stories on our social media and website pages, sharing their contributions to our mission. Our volunteers are also ambassadors within their communities, spreading awareness of the impact of the foundation.
Spotlighting Volunteers: Meet Taryn Hubbard
One of our exemplary volunteers, United States Navy Petty Officer Second Class Legalman Taryn Hubbard, made an enduring impact working with Walisha. In April, she traveled to Rwanda to conduct feasibility studies and assist projects aimed at empowering local farmers. Alongside her main mission, she observed that local children and women needed clothing and took the initiative herself to organize a clothing drive. Her actions are indicative of the sort of volunteerism that best reflects the heart of Walisha volunteers: taking skills, experience, and compassion and applying them to make a difference. Read More
